For over 40 years, until his death in July 2016, Dr. Anthony S. Tavill was a pillar of the Cleveland medical community, and an international authority on the study and treatment of liver diseases. Dr. Tavill was recruited in 1975 from his native England to serve as the head of the Division of Gastroenterology at what was then Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital. That same year, he joined the Case Western Reserve School of Medicine faculty, and later served at Mt. Sinai Hospital, MetroHealth, and the Cleveland Clinic. He was widely published and recognized as a best doctor national and locally many times. Dr. Tavill’s career and achievements made a significant, and lasting, impact on the medical community.
