Program Overview
This free six-week training program will help veterans and members of the military community prepare to complete a 5K. The goal is to give participants an achievable activity, a supportive community, and coaches who believe in their ability to succeed.
Participants do not need to be experienced runners. Jeff Galloway’s training program can support individuals at different fitness and experience levels, including those who plan to walk, run, or use a combination of both.
How the Program Works
- Participants will receive a six-week 5K training plan.
- Training will be managed through the Galloway portal. Participants will be added to the Global Galloway portal, where they can access their training program and communicate with other participants.
- Coach Cheri Whitt will meet virtually with participants each week.
- Additional individual support may be available when participants need extra assistance.
- The program’s goal is a 100% completion rate.
- Participants will select a local 5K they would like to complete.
- Free Parkrun events and other free 5Ks across the country may be recommended as options.
- Jeff Galloway’s program will provide the training, while each participant will identify and register for the race they want to complete.

Featured Coach Cheri Whitt
Cheri Whitt is a veteran, accomplished endurance athlete, and dedicated Galloway coach who takes pride in meeting people wherever they are in their journey. After surviving a life-threatening illness that required her to relearn how to walk and talk, Cheri set a goal of completing a marathon. With the help of Jeff Galloway’s Run Walk Run® method, she completed her first marathon in 2016 and went on to finish more than 100 marathon-distance events, ultramarathons, and a 100-mile race.
Cheri is passionate about helping others overcome obstacles, build confidence, and accomplish goals they may not have thought were possible. Through this program, she will provide participants with encouragement, personalized support, and a welcoming community throughout their 5K journey.
Program Inspiration Jeff Galloway
“Jeff’s life was about service—whether as a Vietnam veteran, an Olympian representing our country, or through the decades he spent helping people believe they could do more than they ever thought possible. We’re incredibly excited to partner with the American Liver Foundation to bring Jeff’s knowledge, training, and Run Walk Run® method to 5K for Galloway. We look forward to helping people finish their first 5K, get back out there after time away, or simply come together as a community to support a great cause. It’s a meaningful way to continue Jeff’s legacy of service by using running, walking, and community to help others.” — Westin Galloway
Jeff Galloway was a U.S. Olympian, Vietnam veteran, and creator of the Run Walk Run® method. During more than 50 years of coaching, he helped over 350,000 runners achieve their goals through his innovative and accessible training programs. Jeff was also a bestselling author, longtime Runner’s World columnist, international running seminar leader, and runDisney’s Official Training Consultant.
